Cooperative Learning ~ Bring Students Together

Engage Math Students in a Read, Write, & Research project that they Debate!

Cross curricular lessons are fantastic, because they can incorporate so much in one lesson that assists students understanding on how subjects intertwine.

The "Read, Write, Math Project Lesson" incorporates all of these tasks!

This lesson brings Language Arts, Collaboration, Evaluation, and Math together.

Engaging students in collaboration assists them in team work, cooperative learning, self evaluation, peer evaluation, and more that they will utilize throughout their life.
Bring it all together with this unit!

This assignment is completely {editable} to suit your class and how you have students turn in the assignment.

With this activity you may have students write about the articles and topic I included or change it to the math unit you are currently teaching.
I suggest allowing a minimum of 3 class days to complete a lesson of this scope - a day to research and review the lesson with students, a day for students to collaborate, then a day to debate.  If you chose this option I'd have the students work for a week on the project at home.  I allowed 2 weeks for students to complete this project.  We spent 4 class days on the lesson and students executed the written portion during one class day while finishing the written portion for home work.

Note ~ I allowed 2 weeks for students to complete this project.  Students who loved writing and excelled in written communication loved that they could bring that talent into math.  For a few students I even extended the lesson and asked them to write poems, or a short story on their choice topic for math after they had completed this assignment.
